STORIES BEHIND THE DATA
Expanding the use of reading interventions
Monte Vista elementary schools have become known for the innovative use of the research based best practice developed by Lindamood Bell. Our whole school approach to use of this reading intervention program has become a model of sorts for area districts and has been featured in publications created by the corporation itself. Reading growth scores in 2017-18 were far above Colorado state averages [click here for video}

National Braille Day
One of our third grade students, alongside her Para, taught their classmates a special Braille lesson in honor of Louis Braille's Birthday that is January 4, which is also National Braille Day. The student is learning braille along with her regular academics to aide her for her future studies.
The student shared what a braille cell consists of, which is a series of 6 dots that make up the cell. She explained how to make each letter that she has learned to date as well as how to identify different patterns within the braille cell. They then did a whole class activity that consisted of a fun braille packet. Students had to use a printed braille guide to decode words written in braille, as well as transcribe words from english to braille, Great student leadership in the 3rd Grade!! |
